The McCaw School of Mines
|
The "Jewel of the Desert" simulated mine at McCaw
Elementary School is where kids come to learn about
mining, the history of mining and the importance of
mining in Nevada.
It's a fun, hands on field trip experience open to
fourth grade student throughout the valley and it is
completely free to public school students. The McCaw
School of Mines Foundation provides the funding to
maintain and equip the facility and provide bus
transportation to and from the tours. Volunteers conduct
the tours along with the "Mighty Miners," students from
McCaw Elementary who are trained to help.
School tour dates are available from October through
May. Private tours are available for small groups
throughout the year. Call the office at 799-3546 for
details.
